A remarkable journey of hope, resilience, and expert pediatric cardiac care.

Baby Ahamed Aryan Samah, now 5 months old, was airlifted from Maldives to KIMSHEALTH on March 18 as a critically ill 3-month-old infant diagnosed with a complex congenital heart disease.

Detailed evaluation by our Pediatric Cardiac team revealed an extremely rare and complex Type III Truncus Arteriosus. At the time of admission, the baby was battling a viral infection and severe malnutrition, making a major corrective surgery too risky.

Our multidisciplinary team carefully planned and successfully performed a highly complex corrective cardiac surgery. The intricate surgical anatomy required several advanced technical modifications and meticulous execution.

We are delighted to share that baby Ahamed has made an excellent recovery and has been discharged to continue his journey towards a healthy future.

This was a teamwork of our Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiac Anesthesia, Intensive Care, Nursing, and Rehabilitation teams.

What is Type III Truncus Arteriosus?

Type III Truncus Arteriosus is a rare congenital heart defect where a single blood vessel arises from the heart instead of separate pulmonary and aortic arteries, affecting normal blood circulation.

How serious is Truncus Arteriosus in infants?

It is a life-threatening congenital heart condition that usually requires early surgical correction to prevent heart failure, lung damage, and other complications.

Can complex congenital heart defects be treated successfully?

Yes. With advanced pediatric cardiac surgery, multidisciplinary care, and specialised intensive care support, many complex congenital heart defects can be corrected successfully.

Why is multidisciplinary care important in pediatric cardiac surgery?

Children with complex heart conditions often require coordinated care from pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, nurses, nutritionists, and rehabilitation specialists to achieve the best outcomes.

Does KIMSHEALTH offer advanced pediatric cardiac surgery?

Yes. KIMSHEALTH Trivandrum provides comprehensive pediatric cardiac services, including diagnosis, surgery, intensive care, and long-term follow-up for children with congenital heart diseases.

KIMSHEALTH Trivandrum successfully treated a rare case of Type III Truncus Arteriosus in a critically ill infant from Maldives. The baby underwent a highly complex corrective cardiac surgery performed by a multidisciplinary pediatric cardiac team after careful optimisation of health status. The successful outcome highlights KIMSHEALTH's expertise in managing rare and complex congenital heart diseases in children, making it a leading destination for advanced pediatric cardiac care in India.
