Are inhalers good for children? Are they addictive? Dr. Neetu Gupta (Consultant Paediatrician, KIMS Trivandrum) explains that inhalers are the number one medicine for the treatment and control of asthma worldwide. Even if one goes to the USA, UK, or Australia the first thing that they'll advise is inhalers. But most of the parents in India have a tendency in mind that inhalers are for old people or people having a lot of breathlessness and thus they try to control a child's condition with a tablet, syrups, or internal medicine. Inhalers are steroids based which creates a phobia around parents of not being the ideal way of treatments of asthma for kids. Although, Dr. Neetu Gupta explains that firstly, the per dose of inhaler is micrograms and doesn't do any harm to the children. The second thing is that inhalers are very fast and responsive. Once the inhalers are used it directly reaches the lungs without going through any other part of the body thus not creating any negative impact. So these are two things why inhalers are number inhalers are the number one medicine for the treatment and control of asthma.
