How to recognize an imminent heart attack. What are the symptoms? Dr. Ramesh Natarajan, Senior consultant Cardiologist and chief coordinator of cardiology department, KIMS, Trivandrum. Heart attack usually manifest with chest pain it is usually located at the centre of the chest and it starts at a low intensity and gradually builds up, and usually it lasts for at least 15-20 minutes, and usually it is associated with sweating, vomiting, or an urge to pass stools and the pain may radiate from the chest towards the arms or on either side of the neck, towards the back and so on. The associated with the chest pain you can also have a fainting like episode, or you can have palpitations in the chest, you can have breathing difficulty. In some patients who are diabetic they can have silent heart attacks which means they don't feel the chest pain but instead they may have other symptoms like extreme fatigue, or giddiness or loss of conciseness or a sudden development of sweating.
