Interventional Neuroradiology

Interventional Neuroradiology, also called Endovascular Neurointerventions, Interventional Neurology, or Interventional Neurosurgery, is a specialised branch of Radiology. It uses imaging to guide invasive procedures to treat or diagnose problems in the brain, spinal cord, and areas around the head and neck. The approach is similar to what cardiologists do when they perform treatments like angioplasty or place stents in the heart. This involves inserting advanced thin catheters or wires into blood vessels, either through the groin or hand, and leading them to the problem area in the affected vessels.

Benefits of Interventional Neuroradiology

  • The department aims to provide top invasive care and imaging to diagnose and treat problems related to the brain, head and neck, spine, and spinal cord.
  • The endovascular method causes less damage to healthy brain tissue.
  • It allows for fewer risks, leads to better recovery, and reduces hospital stays.
  • Doctors can treat tough conditions that were once untreatable by reaching deep or inaccessible areas without open surgery.
  • Some stroke patients can still get help even if they arrive at the hospital late, depending on the situation.
  • We bring a lot of experience to treating intracranial aneurysms and AVMs through endovascular procedures and embolisation. We also handle and treat conditions like acute strokes, carotid stenoses, intracranial atherosclerosis, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhages, surface-level vascular and venous malformations, as well as spinal AVMs and AVFs.

Stroke: Act F.A.S.T

A stroke is like a heart attack but to the brain, a brain attack. It occurs when the blood flow to an area of the brain is cut off. It can happen to anyone at anytime, but about 75 percent of stroke cases are reported in people above the age of 65
