Gastric Ulceration: Causes and Treatment

You and I at some point in time have suffered that repeated burning pain in the stomach. And in most cases, it may be caused by stomach ulcers. Gastric Ulcers or peptic ulcers happen when open sores develop on the lining of the stomach.

What causes gastric ulcers?

Ulcers in the stomach are often caused by an infection with bacteria or due to constant use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin or ibuprofen. Excessive stress, heartburn, spicy foods, smoking, and alcohol consumption could also cause this.

What are the common symptoms?

Dull pain in the stomach or a very acute one could be the first symptom. A lack of interest in food, nausea, vomiting, bloating or acid re-flux also could signal gastric ulcers.

Diagnosis and treatment

Based on the symptoms, the panel of specialist doctors at KIMS will review your medical history along with any medication that you are on. Blood and stool tests may be advised. Depending on the severity of the ulcer, you may be directed to go in for an endoscopy.

At KIMS we follow two major treatment procedures depending on the severity. They are non-surgical treatments and surgical treatment if the ulcer is very acute.

Foods to add to your diet

What you eat can affect your intestinal tract and your overall health. Go in for a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fiber. Food rich in antioxidants can reduce the chance of getting an ulcer in the first place.
