Electrophysiology

We specialize in conducting invasive cardiac electrophysiology studies to examine and understand the heart's electrical activity. Our team of expert cardiologists, known as electrophysiologists, is dedicated to providing comprehensive assessments and personalized treatment plans for patients with irregular heart rhythms and related conditions. Let's explore more about EP studies and why they are essential for your heart health.

Overview of Electrophysiology (EP) Studies:

An Electrophysiology study, also referred to as an invasive cardiac electrophysiology study, is a series of tests designed to analyse the electrical activity of the heart. The heart's electrical system generates signals that regulate the timing of heartbeats, and an EP study enables our specialized cardiologists to create a detailed map of how these signals move during each heartbeat.

Why an EP Study is Performed?

An EP study serves various crucial purposes, including:

Diagnosing Irregular Heart Rhythms: If you have been diagnosed with an irregular or rapid heartbeat, such as supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) or any other form of tachycardia, an EP study can help our healthcare providers determine the most suitable treatment plan for you.

Unexplained Fainting (Syncope): For patients who have experienced unexplained loss of consciousness or fainting, an EP study is beneficial in understanding the underlying cause of the syncope.

Assessing the Risk of Sudden Cardiac Death: In certain heart conditions, there may be a risk of sudden cardiac death. An EP study can be instrumental in evaluating this risk and guiding the appropriate preventive measures.

Guidance for Cardiac Ablation: Cardiac ablation is a procedure that uses heat or cold energy to correct heart rhythm abnormalities. Before performing cardiac ablation, an EP study is conducted to precisely identify the area responsible for the irregular heart rhythm. In some cases, both procedures can be performed on the same day.

At KIMSHEALTH, our electrophysiologists are specially trained in heart rhythm disorders and use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.

The EP Study Procedure:

During an EP study, you can expect the following steps:

Preparation: You will receive detailed instructions on how to prepare for the procedure, including any necessary fasting or medication adjustments.

Anaesthesia: Local anaesthesia and mild sedation are administered to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

Catheter Insertion: Our cardiologists will insert specialized catheters into your blood vessels and carefully thread them to the heart.

Mapping and Recording: The catheters will record the heart's electrical signals, creating a detailed map of the electrical pathways.

Inducing Arrhythmia (if necessary): In some cases, our electrophysiologists may deliberately induce arrhythmias to observe their patterns and better understand the underlying issue.

Assessment and Treatment Plan: Based on the findings of the EP study, our experts will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.

At KIMSHEALTH, we are committed to providing comprehensive and patient-centric care for individuals with irregular heart rhythms and related conditions. If you or your loved ones are experiencing heart rhythm abnormalities or have been referred for an EP study, you can trust our team of skilled electrophysiologists to deliver the highest level of care. Your heart health is our priority, and we are dedicated to helping you achieve a healthier, rhythmically balanced life.
