“PAIN RELIEF IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT”

Pain medicine is the specialized branch of healthcare that deals with providing comprehensive management of acute as well as chronic pain, using multidisciplinary strategies that include medications, specific image-guided interventions, physical and psychological therapies.

Acute pain is a normal physiological response to any injury or pathology. It may subside when the inciting cause has been treated. Chronic pain, on the other hand, is pain persisting for more than 3 months. Chronic pain is a multifactorial disease and has a huge negative impact on the patient’s quality of life. It reduces physical activity, impairs sleep, increases fatigue and induces mood and personality changes. Hence to obtain the best possible benefit, chronic pain needs to be managed in an appropriately structured pain management program, tailored to each patient’s needs.

The Dept of Pain Medicine, KIMSHEALTH, has a team of doctors and nurses specially trained in pain management. We conduct Pain Clinic OPD from 9 am to 5 pm, 6 days a week. We start with a detailed clinical evaluation to identify the ‘pain generator’. This is followed by optimizing the medical management and initiating physiotherapy. If pain relief is not satisfactory, we employ minimally invasive interventions like nerve blocks, spine or joint injections to achieve further benefits. We also have patient-controlled continuous infusion devices for the management of acute pain or acute exacerbations of chronic pain.

Pain medicine also ensures multidisciplinary care through the involvement of or referral to other specialities like neurology, neurosurgery, rheumatology, orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation etc. as and when needed. We have dedicated pain nurses for 24x7 assistance and long term follow up. Our team of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and other paramedical staff, work together towards that one goal….to help patients conquer their chronic pain, reduce suffering and improve the quality of life.
