There have been a lot of controversies over eggs over the last many years. Some experts suggest that eggs have high cholesterol content while some others say it is an important source of nutrition. Surrounding such information, many people avoid the egg yolks and while some shy away from egg whites. Many started taking egg supplements despite the convenience of consuming eggs directly.

WebMD mentions that the American Heart Association has greenlit the consumption of eggs for healthier nutrition.

There are several reasons why eggs are good for nutrition, and here are some of them.

1. The nutrition of the entire egg

Some people consider just egg whites good for their health and intake the protein portion of the egg while ignoring all the other important nutritional values. One whole egg has 77 grams of calories, 5 grams of fat, 6 grams of protein, and some traces of carbohydrates along with huge amounts of vitamins such as Vitamin B12, Vitamin B2, Vitamin A, Vitamin B5, and Vitamin E.

Not just vitamins, a whole egg is also the house to some minerals such as calcium, potassium, manganese, folate, iron, zinc, selenium, and many others that are needed by the human body.

2. Good for Cholesterol

A decade ago, people were warned against consuming wholesome eggs because it has high cholesterol in it. But further researches and discoveries proved that eggs help in maintaining the cholesterol profile of a person.

The liver is the organ that is responsible for producing cholesterol in the body. If you are eating high but good cholesterol items, the liver produces less cholesterol in the body. On the other hand, if you are not eating cholesterol at all, it can hamper the liver function and might start producing bad cholesterol also in the body.

Eggs on the other hand are known to help in controlling bad cholesterol in the body and increasing good cholesterol that maintains the cholesterol profile of the body.

There are still several implications saying that eggs may have a risk factor in heart health. Research is still on its way to know what impact eggs have on the cardiovascular system of a person.

3. Choline in Eggs

Choline is a much lesser-known nutrient that is available in eggs. It helps the human body facilitate the functioning of various systems in the human body.
One of the most important systems that are connected to choline is the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Also, choline plays a major role in the functioning of the cell membranes.

It has been found that people who are deficient in choline may have problems such as heart disease, liver disease, and even neurological disorders.

Eggs are an efficient source of nutrition for pregnant women as it has 113 mg of choline. It helps in enhancing the cognitive skills of the baby and also reduces the risk of defects in the neural tube.

4. Protein and Amino Acids

Protein is essential nutrition needed by the body as it helps in building the body cells and also enhances a healthy growth process. Not just the body, proteins also are helpful in the growth and development of the hair and nails.

The human body needs as many as 21 protein sources but not all of them are produced in the body and hence some have to be supplemented through food. These are known as amino acids.

Eggs are known to be the best source of proteins as it comprises all the essential amino acids and in the exact ratio that is needed by the human body. 

5. Zeaxanthin and Lutein

Eggs are also known to have two of the most important antioxidants that are very crucial for the eyes. Zeaxanthin and Lutein are the two most important antioxidants that are available in the egg yolks.

These antioxidants help in accumulating the retina and also help in protecting the eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. They also help in reducing the risk of vision problems such as cataract, macular degeneration, blindness after a certain age, and many others.

6. Great Source to Lose Body Fat

Eggs are mostly consumed as breakfast since they are quick to cook and can offer a much fuller breakfast than anything else. They, not just aid in offering a quick and healthier breakfast but also are quite helpful in reducing body fat.

Eggs are a great source of energy and are loaded with nutritious elements. People who intake eggs in breakfast are known to be much fuller throughout the day and hence eat less for the next few meals. This helps in the intake of lesser calories throughout the day that helps the person in reducing the weight drastically. People who choose eggs in breakfast for weight loss not just lose their mass weight but also are known to have reduced waist size as they are energetic and hence can do a lot of activities throughout the day.
