KIMSHEALTH Organises Bullet Rally and Awareness Session for Students on Anti-Tobacco Day

Thiruvananthapuram, June 1, 2024: KIMSHEALTH Trivandrum organised an awareness bullet rally in the capital city and an awareness session against tobacco consumption for school students on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day. V.A. Salim, Joint Excise Commissioner, flagged off the 'Beat the Fumes' bullet rally organised in association with Vimukthi Mission of the state government. The awareness session conducted at KIMSHEALTH and the ‘Back to School’ initiative aimed at creating awareness among students about the need to lead a healthy life was inaugurated by Dr. Divya S. Iyer, MD, Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited.

Inaugurating the Bullet Rally, V.A. Saleem said that it is the need of the hour to come together with the government to plan various schemes to curb the increasing use of drugs. E.M. Najeeb, Executive Director, felicitated the event. Dr. Rohith S, Consultant, Respiratory Medicine, addressed lung cancer, heart disease, respiratory diseases, and the health effects associated with tobacco use during the rally. Dr. P. Arjun, Senior Consultant, and Dr. Nishanth P.S, Associate Consultant, were also part of the event. Around 150 riders participated in the rally, which started from Manaveeyam Veedhi, travelled through various parts of the city, and ended at the starting point itself.

"Cigarettes have killed more people in the world than atomic bombs, and students should be able to become role models for a tobacco-free world," said Dr. Divya S Iyer while inaugurating the tobacco awareness program. Dr. M.I. Sahadulla, Chairman and Managing Director, KIMSHEALTH, presided over the program. The visible reduction in the number of users of tobacco products is evidence that anti-tobacco campaigns are effective in society. He added that students should always stay away from using tobacco products. Dr. Ameer KA, Senior Consultant, delivered the welcome speech, and Dr. Saddiq M.H, Senior Consultant, Department of Pediatrics, gave the vote of thanks. Dr. Prameela Joji, Medical Superintendent, also spoke at the session. An awareness class was also organised for the students of Christ Nagar School under the leadership of Dr. Sujith Varghese Abraham, Respiratory Medicine.
