

Harmony of Life; Organ Donors and Recipients Reunite at KIMSHEALTH
05 May 2025 | 2 minsThiruvananthapuram, May XX, 2025: In a tribute to the life-saving impact of organ donation, KIMSHEALTH Trivandrum, in collaboration with the Liver Foundation of Kerala (LIFOK), hosted Harmony of Life—a special gathering that brought together organ donors and recipients. Over 100 people attended the event, which was organized at KIMSHEALTH.
Dr. Praveen Muralidharan, Medical Superintendent and Senior Consultant, Department of Nephrology, who chaired the event, stated that organ donation is one of the most noble acts a person can perform in their lifetime. He emphasized that organ donation not only sends a positive message to society but also helps raise awareness about this crucial cause. Dr. Praveen also praised the tireless efforts of the Liver Transplant Team at KIMSHEALTH and extended his heartfelt congratulations to them.
B. Lal, President of LIFOK, spoke about the expansion of services for liver transplant patients. He mentioned that the foundation has partnerships with a majority of laboratories across Kerala, enabling eligible individuals to access discounts. He also highlighted that certain panchayats are providing financial assistance of up to ₹5,000 to help transplant patients purchase medicines.
KIMSHEALTH performed its first liver transplant on July 23, 2013. Since then, nearly 200 liver transplant surgeries have been successfully completed. The hospital has also achieved several significant milestones, including Kerala’s first combined liver and kidney transplant, the state’s first split liver transplant, and a successful organ transplant in the lightest pediatric patient.
Dr. Hareesh Kareem, Senior Consultant, Department of Gastroenterology, and B.S. Bindu, District Secretary, LIFOK, also spoke at the event. Dr. Shiras Ahmed Rather, Senior Consultant and Clinical Chair of Transplant Services, delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Shabeer Ali T.U., Chief Coordinator and Senior Consultant, Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic & Liver Transplant Surgery, proposed the vote of thanks.
The event also featured a special dance performance by Nazeema Najeem, who underwent a liver transplant at KIMSHEALTH five years ago.
